I didnt even consider that Haren could be injured. Its a good hypothesis as to why the deal fell through. I would think the Cubs were salivating at the prospect of losing Marmol and gaining Haren.

http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/the-market-for-dan-haren/I'm guessing his back is okay but the Cubs and Halos didn't want to chance it at that price - though this rationale influencing the Cubs decision is baffling.
If it's obvious it's probably true.
