they had to overpay him by a massive amount before other teams could even negotiate with him? kinda doubt it.

Unless they have a pulse on what they feel like the market is going to be on relievers this season. We just saw what a strong pen could do for you. I don't agree with the signing, but if League is a guy that they trust ... so be it. Let's see what other types of deals relievers fetch this winter before calling this an overspend.

this is an overspend no matter what. whether other teams overspend as well doesn't mean anything except that the dodgers aren't the only ones to make the mistake.
btw, this overspend is based on 27 innings. if they really think they can trust him based on that sample then you have more to worry about than one bad contract.

Three years to a reliever who has put up 3 consecutive seasons of 6ish K/9 is just asking for trouble.
it's also not all that great to have a closer who is basically a righty specialist. he really shouldn't face lefties and sticking him in a static role means he has to pitch to whoever is up in the ninth rather than the guys he's going to be most successful against.

Again ... I'm not on board with the signing one bit. The Dodgers $hit out relief arms like it's their job. It's a knee jerk reaction just like the Juan Rivera signing last year. But if a late game reliever is on Stan and Ned's wish list they're going to go with what they know. I personally would've just expanded Tolleson's role, but Bellisario has not been the most trustworthy player and Kenley just had heart surgery. They must've felt like they needed to do this.

Which basically equates to Colletti being bad at his job.
Nah it was a good move, over paying for League is going to force the Giants to lose Affledt, the way I see it Colletti is paying League the same $5 million he was getting this year, and an extra $2.5 million to see the Giants lose Affeldt.

If Colletti wanted to force the Giants to lose Affeldt they could have offered him the contract first. Then not only do we lose him but he goes to the hated Dodgers and he's a better pitcher than League to boot.
