Swisher was on deck to pinch hit, they couldn't have put him in at DH because they had taken Teixeira out and I imagine he was going to play 1B. A-Rod was the only other option really. If they had PH A-Rod in that spot then Detroit would have brought in Benoit, I'd rather have Ibanez hit vs. Coke than ARod vs. Benoit.

At that point in the game, you can't worry of the ramifications of what happens after that on the defensive side. You need to worry about getting to the next half-inning. If Swisher is your best option (and he probably was, whether it was against Coke or Benoit), he needs to hit there.

And I'll still take ARod against a struggling Benoit over a guy in Ibanez who's regularly shown he can't hit left-handed pitching like Coke.
