So I made an early season trade for Pujols after he sucked it up the first month. Now I have both Kemp and Pujols at $5.30 per player in a $26 salary cap league, 4 x 4 roto. Standard roster of 14 postion, 9 pitching. Can I possibly keep both at those prices? My roster is below:
2012 Keepers 4 x 4 Roto
C-McCann $2.20-Throw Back C-Suzuki $.20 1B- Pujols $5.30 2B- K. Johnson $.20-Throw back 3B- Open SS- Everth Cabrera/Bonifacio $1.00 MI- Josh Rutledge $1.00-throw back CI- Morneau $1.00-throw back OF- McCutcheon $2.00 OF- Chris Davis $1.00/Bautista $2.00 OF- BJ Upton $3.20/Melky Cabrera $.10-drop Upton, keep Cabrera OF- De Aza $1.00 OF- Kemp $5.30 U- Desmond Jennings $1.00-throw back
P- Halladay $4.00-2-throw back P-Open P- Open P- Open P- Aceves $1.00-throw back RP- Hanrahan $.50 RP- Broxton $.40 RP- Balfour $1.00 RP- Putz $1.40
As you can see, I also have McCutcheon and Bautista who I am locked in for another 1-2 years. Thats $14.60 wrapped up in 4 players, not to mention the 2-3 closers I would like to keep. Doesn't leave a whole lot left for the draft, but I would essentially have 4 of the top 12 players (arguably) for 2013. Thanks for the help.

I wouldn't pay that much. Maybe keep one or what I would love to see you do is make a deal. Not sure for what exactly but if you could get a solid keeper for one then I think you win.

both are better than Halladay @$4. If it is a smaller league paying for 2 big stars is OK. The rest of your roster looks reasonably priced; it isn't ideal and I'd prefer to have a lesser player in a trade with a cheaper contract but it can be done. Not sure Kemp is worth that in a 4X4; he's the 1 I'd try to trade for a SP
I totally agree on Halladay, I'm not going to keep him @ $4.00. It is a 10 team league, and honestly it's the first time a player went over $5.00, and in this case 2 players, and I have them both. I'm not sure anyone will bite on a trade for either, but I will certainly work that angle. Thanks for the input.

That clinches it for me. If guys don't go over $5.00 but both of these guys did and then both had down years, why keep them. No chance Kemp goes for $5.00 again after this past year and Pujols is likely to see a decrease in price as well. I think I roll the dice and throw both back in the auction. Then you can either try and get them back at a cheaper price or have enough cash to have the flexibility to do some different things. Putting that much money into two guys is going to severely limit you.

If those guys were already top paid and underperformed, I'd have to agree that there is no sense in keeping them. Try to get them for a good price in the auction, and if others want to overpay, get your value elsewhere.
