12 Team Keeper - Keep Kimbrel?

Postby MaudDib » Fri Sep 28, 2012 9:51 am

12 Team points H2H league. We keep 5. Pitching gets you the most points as the top SP/RP get 600-700+ points vs top hitters in the 400-500+ range.

Possible Keepers

Miguel Cabrera
David Wright
Matt Kemp
Justin Upton
Hanley Rameriz

Craig Kimbrel
Yu Darvish
Johnny Cueto

My thought is to keep the top 4 hitters on my list and then one pitcher. Upton might not deserve to be kept but I still think he has a ton of room to grow and I am not ready to throw him back into the draft quite yet. I am very tempted in keeping Kimbrel. He will finish in the top 15 and possibly the top 10 in points. While I know that RP is fickle, hard to throw what he does back into the pool. Darvish is tempting as well especially with what he has done the past month or so.

Let me know your thoughts here.

...and as always WHIR.

Miguel Cabrera
David Wright
Matt Kemp
Hanley Ramirez

Those guys are automatic for me. The final spot would be between Upton and Kimbrel. It's real hard to justify keeping a closer over a stud like Upton even with your settings.

What I like to do in points leagues is not to look at the total value. Find Kimbrel and Upton's Value over Replacement Player. Their point total over a point total of the top option on the wire (or bench). That difference allows you to compare players at different positions. It's easier to do with projections since you know (or strongly believe) that Upton will not be THIS bad again next season.

Your 5 bats, or Kimbrel over Hanley.
Upton has ton more upside then the overrated Hanley.

I would keep the five bats. However, if you feel the strong need to keep Kimbrel, then drop Hanley.

I don't know your league settings, but if Hanley has 3B/SS eligibility, I don't see how you drop that flexibility. Tough call.

Please help?

Will Cabera be 1st base eligible in your league next season? Do you play with a CI spot?

I don't believe Cabrera will be 1B eligible and no CI. There is a good chance I will try and move Wright during the off-season for a 1B but I don't expect that to change my keepers much.

I think I would keep:

Cabrera
Kemp
Upton
Wright
Kimbrel

Hanley needs to show me and you can always reacquire Darvish depending on how your team construction goes next draft. He's looked amazing the last month or so and if he can knock the walks down some, will be a true ace. I should have a piece (for AL only formats but still informative) on him in the coming weeks.
