Ten team League
H/AB R HR RBI SB BB AVG IP APP W SV K ERA WHIP as the categories. I need to win this year as I've got 1000 bucks riding on it. What can I do to improve?
Wow. That is some team. I have a couple of ideas. Take them for what they are worth (which is coming from a guy who really has no big time credentials - but are there really any?)
-Package a deal with a decent closer, like Benitez, and maybe a SP or hitter and try to upgrade at 1B.
-I would start Erstad over Cruz (provided Ersty is healthy)
-You could use a big time starter also. Again, see if someone else needs help in Saves.
-Other than that, bro, not a whole lot you can do. Get a backup for Robbie Alomar. He will either go down injured or will have a similar season as last year. Just prepare yourself.
I wish you good luck (and if any of these tips help and you win, I want a piece of the action) hahaha

I'd like to point out that because of the App. and Save stats, closers are more valuable in my league than starters. There is a tight limit on IP (maybe 1000) so I took closers 5-7 rounds.
Thanks for yr help
Hank
I understand. Well, I guess 1000 inn. would leave you pretty muc handcuffed. Then with the SP you do have, pay close attention to matchups this season. Look at ballparks, home/road, who is in/out of lineups, etc. try to tweak as many definite wins as you can to keep you cmpetitive in that category. But, damn, your team looks good.

I wouldn't trade anyone at this point. I would bench Huff, move Dunn to 1b and go with the hot hand at Util (Probbably hernandez or erstad most of the time). Otherwise your team looks solid.

With such a tight innings cap, why do you have so many pitchers on the bench compared to position players? You can't cycle through all your pitchers because you'll eat up too many innings too fast. Maybe dump some low end starters for any decent position players, if there are any (unless there's something I'm not seeing with regard to your league's weird rules.

It's a fair question, Amnorix. I picked up a big bench of pitchers because I'm not sure who will pan out and who will tank. Matt Anderson, for instance, throws 102 mph but at the same time was injured last year. Brad Penny has all the talent in the world but I'm afraid of his workload. So I drafted a bunch hoping to play the odds and only put them in during favorable conditions.
Thanks everybody

Anderson was hurt, and plays for the most god-awful team this side of Tampa Bay. I'd really look to see if there are any reasonable position players around. Your starting position players will get hurt, and your positional bench is beyond thin -- it's anorexic.

I think your best bet would to be package up Alomar with possibly Erstad or maybe a closer like Embree who is on the bench and being one of the sox's "closer by comitee" won't get him the apperences that youd like. I would think with 2 of these 3 guys you have a shot at getting a decent SP along the lines of Freddy Garcia or even possibly Matt Morris. From there i would think you would have to pick up a 2B, but youd be much better off with a solid SP that rack up some W's. Good Luck
