Keeper Help - Pick 5 of 8 - 100% WHIR

Postby medium_robin » Wed Sep 26, 2012 1:41 pm

Need help with my keepers before everybody gets out of this forum and on to Fantasy Football full-time.

9-team keeper league with 7x7 scoring (add K and OPS for hitters, L and HR for pitchers). Max keeper is 3 seasons. Below are my best options along with how many more seasons they could be on my team. Which 5 are best?!

Pujols - 2 more years
Beltre - 1 more year
J. Upton - 1 more year
A. Craig - 2 more years
Butler - 2 more years
Sabathia - 2 more years
Greinke - 2 more years
Cain - 1 more years

It's the years that are messing with me. Is Greinke for 2 years better than Cain for 1? What about Upton...will he bounce back? Argh!

Leave a link. I help back.

My initial post said I keep 6. Oops. Brain fart. I get to keep 5. Which 5 are best?

Hard to let Craig or Upton go, but this is what I would do unless you can only plug Butler into your UTL spot. Then I would go with Craig. I would certainly attempt to buy Upton back on the cheap if possible.

Keeper Help - Pick 5 of 8 - 100% WHIR

I'm actually a bit surprised Butler got a vote. I almost didn't include him on the list. Pujols and Beltre are in for sure. Pitching is always deep and I think they are more up and down from year to year. So I really dislike keeping even 2 pitchers. But I have to go with the 5 best guys overall. One year of Cain better than 2 of CC?

I'm having a hard time valuing players in a 7x7, so I won't give any player advice, but remember keeping Greinke for that second year when you can't keep Cain is taking a keeper spot away from another player. You should look at it as Greinke for 2 years or Cain this year and your keeper #5 next year.

9 teams? I wouldn't even worry about the years.you'll find great keepers every year. I could see letting Upton go and where Greinke lands needs to be considered. Depending on what positions your 3 1st basemen qualify for and what settings your league uses needs to be weighed in too. its tough to give a final answer w/o knowing things like how many games played you need to qualify at a position; if its 20 then Butler is U only

Still buying into Upton at least for another year. Could change if he changes teams or it could make me even more on the bandwagon. I think Sabathia is going to be taking a step back year to year going forward so I would let him go. Honestly I wouldn't have a problem letting Greinke go and keeping Butler. In a 9 team league SP should be easy to find and I would strongly consider loading up on top hitters and streaming pitchers where needed.

I think I'm going to go with Pujols, Beltre, Cain, Sabathia, and Upton. Too much potential with Upton. Too much inconsistency with Greinke. Why keep him hoping he could be Sabathia when I could keep Sabathia?!
