This is a fanstasy baseball site so I figured we were talking fantasy baseball. The loss in counting stats and in AVG is a complete killer. He has slipped in real baseball stats as well as long as you aren't using something stupid like OPS+ which is so flawed as to be useless. He just is not the same player he was 5 years ago no matter what way you are judging him.
