I am in a 12-team H2H Keeper and am in 1st place (this is the last week) by .5 points. If I am still first after this week, I win the jackpot. Should I drop Melky for offensive depth even though I can keep him for a 16th round pick next season? A lot of my guys are kind of hurt so I'd like to have another 3rd baseman for when Chipper sits.
I can keep 4 for their retrospective picks. Roster:
C - Lucroy 1st - Dunn (20th) 2nd - Altuve (23rd) 3rd - C Jones SS - Andrus OF - Trout (23rd) OF - Pence OF - Grandy Util - Willingham (23rd) Bench: Revere, Melky (16th), Bautista (DL) (1st)
SPs:
Cain Morrow Kershaw J Garcia Harvey (23rd) E Jackson Latos
I would drop Melky. He obviously is no help to you this year, and I don't think he'll be any good next year.
As a Braves fan, I could never help but be skeptical about his recent production. Atlanta cut him because he couldn't hack it as their fourth OF. And the Braves aren't exactly known for their offense. The Giants aren't going to resign him. Once the PEDs flush out of his system, he'll be back to his old self. And that's not a good thing.

Id keep him over Scutaro. For me its the 16th rd pick,,,thats a steal even if he is 80% of what he was this year. His improvment this year was more than just the testosterone. Before this year he cut alot of weight and likely had the best conditioning of his career. Its just like Braun (although he got off on a technicallity). Braun turned out fine and he was obv juicing last year. If it was an earlier pick id say dump him....16th rd thats too good to pass up, even if its a gamble.
Eh I ended up cutting him. Since I can only keep 4 players, I figured that I have a few other very good keeper options anyway.
Trout (last round pick) and Bautista (1st round pick) are definites, so that leaves me with 2 more choices:
I can keep Altuve (shallow position) for a last round pick, Dunn for a 20th round pick, Harvey for a last round pick, or Willingham for a last round pick. I think those are some decent players and are great value!
How is Bautista in the 1st round a bad choice? After 332 at bats this year he has 27 homers and 65 RBIs. If he hadn't been injured, he'd almost surely have 35+ HRs by now. Especially hitting in front of E3. Plus, he is both 3rd base and OF eligible.
Once the average starts to go for the over 30 players it usually doesn't come back; similar thing with injuries except they tend to keep coming back.He might not be a bad keeper choice in your setup, but the days of him being a top 12 choice are gone and never to return.I wouldn't take him in the top 20 picks next year tho some surely will, I show him with 1 game @ 3rd base this year
