Is Melky worth holding onto? WHIR Please

Postby jruffus1 » Sun Aug 26, 2012 12:53 am

I am in a 12-team H2H Keeper (4 keepers for their original draft picks) and would really like to pickup a 3rd basemen, but don't think it's smart to drop Melky. I actually acquired him in a trade a few days before the suspension (sucks), and now have him sitting on my bench.

He was drafted in the 16th round out of 24 rounds. Even with the testosterone discovery and tarnished image, is he still a very valuable keeper for me since I'd only have to give up a 16th round pick for him? So, should I attempt to hold onto him at all costs?

Roster:

C - S Perez
1st - Dunn
2nd - Altuve
3rd - C Jones
SS - Andrus
OF - Granderson
OF - Pence
OF - Willingham
Util - Trout

Bench: Bautista (DL)

SPs:

Kershaw
Cain
Morrow
E Jackson
Harvey
Holland
Latos
J Garcia

RPs:

Axford
Affeldt
W Lopez
Cishek
Hernandez (HOLDS)

I don't see him being very productive. I doubt he gets resigned by SF. I expect him to hit close to his career numbers: .270, 10 hr, 60 RBI. His last two seasons could be a fluke attributed to PEDs. However, he might still hit .300 as he is hitting his prime... so I guess it depends on who you could get in the 16th round. But you have some good potential keepers too (trout, Bautista, Cain...).

Good luck

I think Melky will come back and still be a top 60 player. Braun was on steroids and his play hasn't really diminished in the way others thought it would either.

Still, looking at your roster I see a number of players who should be kept ahead of Melky. Trout, Willingham, and Altuve were probably all picked with relatively low picks as well and can you really let Granderson walk even at 1st/2nd round?

I think that's your answer.

I think he will drop off to pre-2010 numbers. That is, assuming someone gives him a contract that he is willing to take. Not at all guaranteed.
