As a Sox fan that lives in Boston all this is going to do is assure that Bobby V doesn't last through the offseason. Fans will blame the player's failure on Valentines inability to get them to play hard. Letting Francona go was a mistake, the Sox should have addressed the real issues last offseason instead of letting it blow up in their faces and forcing them to blow up the whole team. Without Varitek and Wakefield's presence in the clubhouse the team sank. I think building from the bottom up as fast as possible is the way to go. Ortiz will probably be dealt in the offseason, and the money being freed up with now probably won't be spent all at once, because what they need are pitchers, and good pitchers who can help you long term don't grow on trees.
Good day to be a Dodger fan though!

I, for one, would love to see such big names head across the country, change leagues, and potentially sway the playoff picture when we're just a few days from September. You just know Beckett would pitch like his stud self in LA and not the squid he's looked like in Beantown all season. Crawford would look like his Tampa self, and Gonzo would party like it's 2011.
I am HUGE on Rubby DLR. That kid is an absolute stud in the making. I am very sad to see him leaving. I like Webster a lot too. I would've preferred to see Lee & Reed. But to add a bat like AGone ... It's worth it!

Getting lost in all of this is how amazing Carl Crawford (and really, Beckett too) is capable of being (for Crawford not this year, obviously, but they've suddenly got a potential monster leadoff bat in 2013). For fantasy purposes, this could be massive for Beckett for the remainder of the year.
LAD's Sept schedule: ARI, SD, @SF, @ARI, STL, @WSH, @CIN, @SD, COL. That's a heck of a lot better than facing TB and NYY, and even TOR offensively.

All just gravy. Beckett is an obvious upgrade over Blanton for this season. And Crawford should be able to replace Victorino's value next season. It also keeps Dee Gordon out of the leadoff spot.

I'm not sure Crawford will be ready for the start of next season, and with no DH they will have to be careful with not rushing him back.

Naw - Valentine was out the door long before this trade. I don't think the fans blame him actually - he certainly didn't improve the situation, and threw some gas on the fire at times, but it was burning before he got here.
Agree that they need to start from the ground up - gonna take a couple of seasons at least.
