#5 WW on Skaggs?

Postby Knights » Fri Aug 24, 2012 11:47 am

Tyler Skaggs is coming off waivers on Sunday, and I have the #5 waiver wire spot and trying to decide if I should use it on Skaggs.

I know it's late in the season and likely very few other opportunities will come up to use it, but being in the thick of the playoff hunt (T-6th place, top 6 MAKE THE PLAYOFFS) I'm tempted to hold on to my position just in case another team calls up a prospect as a September call-up. Plus, without knowing the role Skaggs will fill when he stays up it makes it more difficult, as #5 WW on a reliever would be a waste I think.

But I wanted to get some other thoughts - given my pitching staff below, am I correct in holding off unless the D-backs announe that Skaggs will continue to start?

SP James Shields (TB - SP)
SP Johnny Cueto (Cin - SP)
SP Mike Minor (Atl - SP)
SP Jaime Garcia (StL - SP)
RP Joel Hanrahan (Pit - RP)
RP Tom Wilhelmsen (Sea - RP)
P Homer Bailey (Cin - SP)
BN Santiago Casilla (SF - RP)
BN Heath Bell (Mia - RP)
DL Matt Garza (ChC - SP)
DL Andrew Cashner (SD - SP,RP) DL

Keeper league? That's kind of important.

Yes, it's a keeper - Keep 6.

However I don't really foresee any way that he becomes a keeper going into next year. I'll probably keep 1-2 SP, and Shields, Garza and Cueto all have the proven track record.

Use your claim! Even if he's not a keeper, you're not going to get Wil Myers with the #5 spot. Oh, and Skaggs would instantly be better than Garza in my opinion. Shields hasn't been that great either, outside last season where he pitched way over his head.
