Cano. It's bizarre that he's being ignored in this. I'm going with Trout, but Cano should at least be even with Cabrera.
Cano is having a good season but it isn't great, and he's 50RBI behind what he had last season. Trout has flat out been better offensively. Defensively they have both been A+ and I'd guess a 2B would get more top value. In the end I suppose if the Angels don't make the playoffs it will come down to 'Was Trout so much better than everyone else he gets my vote regardless' rather than Cano or Miggy getting the nod. It could be a close vote, and Trout may not win, but my money is on Trout winning easily no matter what happens to their respective teams. He is a force at the plate, on the bases or in the field. A true 5 tool guy.
Here's their stats up to today for easy eyeballing
Team Izzy C Mauer 1 E5 2 Cano 3 ARam S Rollins CI LaRoche MI Altuve O Melky, Pagan, Morse, Hunter, Ruggiano SP Lee, Fister, Estrada, McCarthy, Lohse RP Chapman, Jansen, Frieri, Fujikawa Bench 1 Hart S Cabrera O Eaton U Ortiz P Marcum P Miller P Fernandez
"Solid defense" for Miggy is being very generous. He has by far the worst range of any 3B in baseball this year. Last year the only 1B with worse range was Prince Fielder. Verlander should get the MVP just for having those two as his corner infielders! I won't get too much into using batting average and RBI to make MVP arguments. I realize that not everybody is a stat geek, but at this point there's really no excuse for it.

Heard Mitch Williams on MLB network say something like this in regard to his D...
"Miggie handles the balls well that he can reach ... when he falls one way or the other"

Like I said, I'd go with Trout. I just don't get why the discussion is only Miggy v Trout. For those who believe a playoff berth is imperative, Cano would seem to have the edge over Cabrera -- his defense compensates for the offense gap, and his team is in an even better position to get to the postseason, so...
Yea this isn't even really all that close anymore. Trout made his splash, but Home Runs and RBI really do the talking in the MVP race, and Miggy has those in spades. The .333 average doesnt hurt either. Trout has been a revelation, but there is no way he beats out Miggy unless he closes the season with about 10 HR/10 SB.

I think Cabrera has a shot to win but I honestly think he will need to win the triple crown to do it. And even if he did I still don't think he would be automatic. This isn't just about fantasy numbers, Trout has been exceptional in the field and as a base runner. I'm not sure how missing three weeks will have an effect, but it'll probably hurt him more than help him. It might be a really close vote. How they close out the season is going to have a big impact.

Trout is so far ahead of Cabrera that it would be a joke if he didn't win. But it would be basically what I expect from a group of people that puts more value on the quality of the teammates as opposed to the quality of the player himself.
