Problem is that nobody from this day forward would get in since it's not going to stop...
how would PED have effected Colon this season? it's not like he has great numbers. the 3.43 ERA and 1.21 are good, but not what would scream PED. he only has 5.38 K/9. he's given up 161 hits in 152.1 IP. his ERA is lower this season compared to last season, but his LOB is also higher this season at 76.3 % compared to 70 % last season.
I think the point is that we don't know who is on them. Everybody uses a broad stroke to paint a narrow group of players (sluggers with big bodies) but really, we have no idea who is using PEDs, and who is benefitting the most. Colon is an old, fat, washed up pitcher that all of a sudden had 2 good seasons out of nowhere. Streroids don't just give you big biceps, they help your body recover faster and better. This is one of the main reasons that it's so ridiculous to implicate guys like Bagwell. We don't know who used - and it was probably the majority of players in the 90s, anyway - so why bother to punish players unless they've actually tested positive?

This isn't fair but it's because it's impossible to prove someone never used them. After the Palmeiro debacle, and with people like Jose Canseco and Conte running around claiming everyone and the ball boy to be on them, the fans are losing trust in the common player and I believe this will hurt future votes. It's not innocent until proven guilty anymore, it's all guilt by association.
What would happen if it came out that Jeter or Mariano tested positive? And if Colon is on the stuff who's to say Captain Cheeseburger himself isn't? It's all evil, negative speculation that does nothing but hurt this generation of player, guilty or not. And I think we are going to see far fewer players than expected get into the Hall in the next decade or so.

Yeah…starting to think that Conte was right when he said that many players are using synthetic testosterone now. I figured they had moved on to something else in recent years, something that could more easily get by the tests. It’s becoming more clear that they have.
Still funny how Braun got out of it with nothing, though.
