Players ignoring Salary Cap

Hi Guys.

I have a couple guys who are contending that are now completely ignoring the salary cap. We have a system that makes inactive teams or teams over salary cap ineligible for our weekly cash prizes and place a three week trade sanctions for second offense. Now the trade dealine is done and two guys are over budget. With no more threat of sanctions, the $1200 first prize seems to be convincing enough for these guys to ignore the rules.

We have no further mechanisms to deter this problem and I am worried about "fairness" here. Absolutely no idea how to handle the situation.

In our league if you are over the salary cap, it is an illegal lineup and your stats don't count as long as you are over. If you did not have such wording in your rules, shame on you.

I'm always against changing the rules once the season starts, but if you are in a cap league and they are going over that they would seem to be ineligible for those weeks.Give them a week to get under the cap or they'll score no points for the week. Either that or live with the rules you have for the rest of the year would seem to be the best 2 choices you have to choose from

Thanks for the responses. Not often you get an old fashioned shame on you. But this is a live league that has been around for twenty years. Took over as commish a couple years back and have been bringing the league up to code on modern rule expectations, such as this problem. We are definitely addressing this in offseason. Until then, the main offender just had Cuddyer go on shelf so the problem temporarily fixed itself. We are in current discussions of simply tabling Cuddyer for the rest of the year which would mean salary cap is back in force and no one gets a cheap WW claim.

I would think that if it has been pretty much the same guys for a lot years, this would have come up before. They couldn't have just thought of this now. In a league that has that much money, this winter you better go through the rules and cover every loophole you see. I have been running a league for 17 years and minor improvements are made every year.

Buck up Buttercup..lay down the law and tell them to stay under the cap. Its still a rule of the league since its a salary cap league, even though you didnt make any penalty written into the rules.
