Crawford or Victorino, rest of season? WHIR

Postby rmande09 » Sat Aug 18, 2012 11:42 am

Short of it: who would you rather have for the rest of the season, Carl Crawford or Shane Victorino? I'm looking for runs, average, and steals.

Longer: I have a strong OF/UTIL with Cargo, Bourn, D. Jennings, Hart, and Encarnacion. Right now, I have a sizable lead in homers and RBIs and am within striking distance for runs, steals, and average. I can make a deal for Crawford or Victorino, which would 1. give me insurance in case Bourn or Jennings go down, and 2. give me someone to start in place of Hart to go after those three categories. The two questions I ask:

1. Who would you rather have if you're only concerned about runs, average, steals?
2. Who would you rather have overall, if you care about 5x5 productivity?

Leave a link and I'll help.
C: Pierzynski
1B: Pujols
2B: Altuve
3B: Miggy
SS: HanRam
OF (x3): CarGo, M. Bourn, D. Jennings
UTIL (x2): E. Encarnacion, C. Hart
BN: Cuddyer, C. Ross, J. Montero

SP: Price, Gallardo, T. Hudson, Lester
RP: Chapman, Jansen, Rodney, Putz, Cishek, Bailey

I'd rather take a risk on Crawford than settle for Victorino's terrible platoon stats. As a lefty, Victorino is batting .243/.302/.359. As a righty, he's batting .317/.384/.520. Thing is most pitchers are right handed so he won't be batting from that side often. If you have the ability to bench him vs RHP then go for Victorino, but overall I'd absolutely take Crawford.

Help with mine?

Like others are saying, I just read about the potential Tommy John surgery. Still, if he doesn't go through with it, I'm taking Crawford.

Crawford - better lineup, better hitter (I think)

Edit: rotoworld is reporting that Crawford may undergo Tommy John surgery next week. I assume that ends his season. Stay away from him.

Normally I'd say Crawford but sounds like he could undergo Tommy John at any time. In that case, Victorino is probably much safer.

Correct. He might get the surgery done as early as next week.
