nobody said he doesn't deserve credit for what he does. he's insanely good at his job. his job just isn't near as important or difficult as the job that starters do so he really doesn't have a chance to win a cy young no matter how good at his job he is.

1. Outstanding job, you did everything we asked of you and I'm going to recommend you for employee of the month.
2. Outstanding job, but Bob could have done this blindfolded with a broken arm. I don't respect you, so why don't you just piss off.
3. Who the hell are you? Get out of my office!
I'd like to think that number one would be most common. It's clearly not a perfect analogy and meant to give a chuckle, but #2 really sounds like what you guys are saying about Kimbrel. I may in the minority and be wrong, but I just think he deserves SOME credit for this incredible season.
No, it's more like a part-time employee winning employee of the year by setting sales and marketing records. It doesn't happen.

The thing is, those aren't the only 3 options. None of those would be the most common. The most common would be something along the lines of "thanks, I appreciate it, good job." Definitely a compliment, and the boss would be appreciative, but that employee isn't winning employee of the month.

By the way, the CYA and MVP were the second and third most memorable moments for Eck's 1992 season. Number one:
I love everything about this post.
I have no idea who I think should win the NL CY. I've only skimmed over the numbers and it looks like there is a clump of 4-5 guys that you could make a case for. Gio will probably win it by default because of his 21 wins and PLAYOFFS!!!111!1!. Dickey might win it if the voters value the extra 30 innigs he threw. Kershaw, Cain, Cueto should all get votes as well.
Here's the pitch on the way, a swing and a belt! Left field! Way back! BLUE JAYS WIN!

Are there places that actually give out Employee of the Month awards? I've worked in many different places and never has there been such a thing. It has such a kindergarten feel to it. Where I work, the employee would get a pat on the back and his regular 60K salary while his boss would get a $50K bonus at Christmas for his department performing so well. So yeah... he's still the little guy, and he does a less valuable job.
And it's still Dickey for Cy Young. See the way he put away Greenburg on three pitches last night? Filthy. And rumour has it the kid had a career .732 wOBA prior to that at bat. That's 200 points higher than Babe Ruth!
The more I've thought it about it, the more I am leaning towards Kimbrel. He's just been ridiculous, and Jayson Stark's arguments for him have swayed me. If you want to pick the BEST PITCHER, regardless of role, how can it not be Kimbrel?
He's had the best closer season in the history of the game - better than any of the others that have won the CY.

Regardless of who has won what in the past, Kimbrel didn't have a better season than R.A. Dickey or Clayton Kershaw or Gio Gonzalez or Johnny Cueto or other NL pitchers as well, which is all that matters. Hell, Cliff Lee won 6 games and was a better pitcher than Kimbrel this season.
