I need to drop a closer in an NL only league. NO reserves in this league, 5x5 standard only with net saves. I've got a pitcher coming off of the DL soon and need to drop Wilton Lopez of Jeremy Affeldt. Neither one has much upside but I need to at least try to get some saves to keep up with the pack. Advice?
You're so ugly that if you were a dog I'd shave your butt and teach you to walk backwards!
I'd dump Lopez. Houston is so bad, they may not even win 10 more games this year, and if you assume only half of those are save opportunties, you are probably looking at 5 saves out of him. Not really worth it. Affeldt at least plays on a good team that will get save chances, even if he's splitting duties.

Not excited about either one, but if it's saves you're after I have to agree - good chance a part-time Affeldt gets more situational opportunities than Lopez ROS
I think 15 wins for the rest of the season for the Astros is reasonable. And considering they're so bad, few of these wins will be blowouts, which means close games, which means save opps.
I think I'd go with Lopez because he is the closer whereas Affeldt shares the duties, and Affeldt has given up 3 runs in his past 6 appearances.
Or maybe I'm just a Lopez owner in denial
Either way, you're looking at a very close number of opportunities/saves. Toss a coin.
