I think he'll have games like that, he's not an overpowering pitcher, averaging about 91mph. What he does have though is good control and 3 other pitches he works in well. His slider is solid and it appears his change is solid so hes got enough to be a good pitcher if he can maintain the good control and work his pitches like good pitchers do...pitching in that home park doesn't hurt either.
But yeah, if you aren't overpowering then you'll have games where you only strike out 2-3 guys in a game but it doesn't mean he still can't be an 8k/9 type of guy though....just depends on how much he knows how to pitch...knowing how to pitch can be just as important as stuff.
Anybody else watch Matt Harvey tonight? He looked super impressive. I'm still not completely sold, as I'm not one to go in on rookie pitchers, but he could be really really good as soon as next season. If Wheeler is supposed to be better, the Mets might actually have something. I have been cautious about mets pitchers. Never liked Pelfrey much, thought Niese would be good eventually. I really thought that Harvey was more a Niese type, but he looks ready to be excellent now.
