San Francisco, CA (Sports Network) - The San Francisco Giants placed staff ace Jason Schmidt on the 15-day disabled list on Saturday with a sore throwing shoulder.
Schmidt, who finished second in the National League Cy Young Award voting last year, is coming off an incredible season. He racked up a career-best 17 wins (17-5), topped the National League with a 2.34 ERA and made his first All-Star appearance. He also had five complete games and three shutouts. The move for Schmidt is retroactive to March 26.
The Giants also placed outfielder Jeffrey Hammonds on the 15-day disabled list with a broken right thumb. He suffered the injury during a spring training game last month.
