I'm already thinking ahead for next year on who my number 1 overall pick would go to... I've limited my choices between Mike Trout and Matt Kemp, although I'm leaning toward Trout since he is more likely to steal a lot more bases. When you have a guy that can very realisticaly lead the league in stolen bases AND have an OPS over a 1.000, I dont think you can pass on that. But there are things to consider like Matt Kemp's track record, and the fact that Trout is batting leadoff while Kemp is batting 3rd and so on.
I guess you could also throw names like McCutchen, Gonzalez, Braun, Cabrera, Pujols, and Votto into this discussion... Although I really only see myself picking Trout or Kemp, but thats just me.
Braun is too money to risk whatever upside Trout has over him. I love Trout, but I can't see me taking him over Braun/Kemp/MCab. He'll probably still be a 1st rounder and get picked next to McCutchen.

Yes, I understand that Mike Trout doesnt have the track record, but I dont think anyone has the upside Trout has. I think Trout WILL get on base next year and What rookie has ever been the best player in a single season? Yes Ryan Braun and Albert Pujols both had great rookie seasons, but they were both first rounders and none of them has anywhere near the speed Mike Trout has.
The way I see it is that Mike Trout can realistically be Ryan Braun with 50+ stolen bases.

Wow. Trout has one of the best half seasons in MLB rookie history and suddenly he's the #1 pick over a guy who's realistically been one of the best hitters in baseball since he came into the majors? Sorry. You can pick anyone else and I'll take MCab 10 times out of 10. Just wait until he wins the triple crown.

Cabrera can win the triple crown and still have 50-60 less stolen bases than Trout while Trout is no slouch in any other category. Trout has 13 more runs, 8 less homers, 31 less RBI, 32 more steals, and is batting 22 points higher than Mcab and Trout didnt have an April... I just dont think there has ever been another player like him.
I dont think anyone here would be shocked at all if Trout was the #1 overall player next year, and that makes him NOT a crazy #1 draft pick.
I understand that most would take the much more proven Mcab, but when it comes to upside, Trout stands alone.
