Hosmer for Vogelsong (WHIR)

Postby BUCCOFAN » Wed Aug 08, 2012 1:42 pm

14 team league fantasy point auction keeper league. players have 3 year contracts then become free agents. Currently Eric Hosmer is on my bench, and I am holding him for next season, having a hard time parting with the "talent" its got to show up sooner or later one thinks. What is the guys value in a keeper league, while at a semi low dollar cost at the moment? that is the question.

I GET: (salary) (contract year)
P - R.Vogelsong $3(2) (has 1 more year left of keeper rights)
OF - S.Marte $3(1) (has 2 more years left of keeper rights)

HE GETS:
1B - E.Hosmer $8(2) (has 1 year left of keeper rights)
P - K.Medlen $1(1) (has 2 more years left of keeper rights)

Is this a good move? I am trying to shore up my rotation for the stretch run.......and think Vogelsong does the job at a relatively low cost $3, since I need to maintain below the $305 max cap.

Must remind you, I am currently in 1st place by 400FP with 9-10 weeks left to go. (do I really need to make the deal) Move Hosmer or hold tight, and keep him for next year.

Current Pitchers (we start 8 weekly SP or RP)
Lester $31 (1) (if he was remotely pitching well I would not be concerned, what a waist of $$$$)
Burnett $3 (1)
Hudson $4 (1)
Zimmernann $5 (3)
Dempster $8 (3)
McDonald $6 (1)
Hanrahan $1 (2)
Clippard $3 (1)
Hellickson $3 (3)
Blanton $1 (1)
Medlen $1 (1)

See if you can get Vogelsong straight up for Hosmer. Medlen is not a throw in. He's got a chance to become the most valuable of the lot of them.

Vogelsong is not as good as his stats indicate but the ballpark effect that helps him isn't going away anytime soon and the Giants' offense is getting better and is now solidly underrated due to that same park effect.

Hosmer.. what can you say? His 2011 was ok, not super for a 1B and he's been a disaster this year. It's now August, he's had enough time to make due.

I actually like this deal a lot for you. Especially since Hosmer only has 1 year of keeper eligibility left.
