Anderson for Shields??

Postby langsetm » Wed Aug 08, 2012 10:03 am

I was just offered the following trade in my keeper league:

I get:
Brett Anderson (3yrs)
5th Round Draft pick (we have 12 teams and 12 keepers yearly to give a sense of what kind of talent I'd get at 5th round--not much--did draft CarGo there 2 years ago though)
Matt Harvey (throw away bc he'd need to drop for roster room)

I trade:
James Shields (2yrs)

If Anderson was healthy this would be a no brainer for me, especially with Shields production this year. But he's been turning it around lately and I still have his shutout king-like production from last year fresh in my mind.

I've never owned Anderson but I know what kind of value he has a younger pitcher and more years. However, is this worth it for me? Any sense of what kind of pitcher he'll come back to be?

My Roster:

C- MIke Napoli
1B- Eric Hosmer
2B- Dan Uggla
SS- Josh Rutledge
3B- Miguel Cabrera
OF- Carlos Gonzalez
OF- Yoenis Cespedes
OF- Nick Markakis
Util- Edwin Encarnacion
BN-Josh Reddick
DL- Ian Desmond
DL- Joey Votto

SP- Jon Lester
SP- James Shields
RP- Kenley Jansen
RP- Chris Perez
P- Yovani Gallardo
P- Josh Johnson
P- Paul Maholm
P- Michael Fiers
P- Jordan Zimmermann
P- Carlos Villanueva
DL-Jeff Niemann

Where are you in the standings? I think it is a fair offer if you are out of it this year, but if you still have a shot at playoffs I wouldnt make this deal

As of now I'm in 6th but with a legitimate shot of making the playoffs. Especially with Votto and Desmond coming back soon. If Anderson can come back with form he could even be more valuable than Shields down the stretch. Shields has been anywhere from ace-like to pure-shit throughout this season. Need a little consistency

I wouldnt make this deal.....Anderson isn't a sure thing. IF you think you have a shot still this year. Votto should be back, but Desmond could be lost for the season. Don't count on him.

If you are building for next year, then go with this deal....don't look back.
