With 2012 turning towards the home stretch, I just wanted to gauge where everyone sees the pitchers for next year. They have been tightly bunched this season, so I thought it would be interesting to see how much the list vary and how much respect young guys, new guys, old guys and all the rest stack up. Feel free to rank 10 or 15 or 20 or 30, or even show some tiers if you are up to it. Have fun with it. My extremely rough version:
Well, as of right now the list I think for me would be
1.) Stephen Strasburg (and literally the only pitcher I would spend a high pick or place a big bid on) 2.) Justin Verlander 3.) Clayton Kershaw 4.) David Price 5.) Felix Hernandez 6.) Cole Hamels 7.) Jered Weaver 8.) Matt Cain 9.) CC Sabathia 10.) Madison Bumgarner 11.) Roy Halladay 12.) Chris Sale 13.) Zach Greinke 14.) Cliff Lee 15.) Adam Wainwright 16.) Jordan Zimmermann 17.) CJ Wilson 18.) Brandon Morrow 19.) Gio Gonzalez 20.) Jake Peavy
Verlander Strasburg Weaver Kershaw Felix Price Cain Hamels Bumgarner Sabathia Halladay Sale Greinke Gio Wainwright Lincecum CJ Wilson Cueto Zimmerman Matt Moore

Because most, if not all of the guys on these lists, have either or both a greater upside and longer track record of success than Fiers, who I do love this season, but probably not enough to crack a Top 20 for next year. I could see him out-earning some of the 'riskier' names on here like Moore, Wainwright, Wilson, Morrow, Peavy... but there's other names probably ahead of Fiers who didn't make the list. Fiers could end up a Top 20 SP if a few of these guys get injured, but either way he looks like a great value pick for next season.

Yeah, good story and being a guy who can limit walks is always a positive sign but color me skeptical he can keep the pace up....you can count on one hand and have fingers left over of the number of right handers who avg less than 89mph and can sustain success year in and year out.
I hate to say it because I love the guy, but it would be really hard for me to justify picking Lincecum in the top 20 SP next year. As we're seing this year, the downside is huge. I might reconsider if he finishes really strong, but as of now, it seems crazy to me to have guys like Wilson and Greinke behind him, as some of these lists do.
A little surprised to see Matt Moore make the list. I know he's been shaky and upside is still huge. I'm assuming those ranking in top 20 are thinking keepers???

I thInk Matt Moore is a fantastic target next season, but I'm not ready to put him in my top 20 next for next year at this moment. He will certainly be a target of mine though.
