I'm currently 2nd overall, so I could afford to wait on Tulo. However, my offense is lighting the world on fire, and I think he could be my best trading chip. Should I dangle Tulo out there for pitching help? Would you be okay with Rutledge or Plouffe at SS for the rest of the season?

I really don't think you should rely on Plouffe or Rutledge at SS if you're trying to make a run this year. Plouffe isn't very good IMO and I think Rutledge will see a dramatic decrease in playing time once Tulo is back.
Like you said, you can afford to hold on to Tulo as you're in 2nd place. Trading away big names on the DL are moves for teams on the cusp of making the playoffs and who need the production now, rather than during the playoffs. Sit on him now and wait until you need him in the playoff run that you know you're going to make.

At least that was always my philosophy.
Of course all of this depends on the pitcher coming back. If I could get a top flight starter for him right now I would do it.
I think you can afford to dangle him to the league and at least gage what you could get.. I think Rutledge will stay in the line-up even when Tulo returns @ 2b.
