OK, currently in 3rd place, within striking distance in a 12 team, NL only keeper league. Behind in HR/RBI, strong on avg/SB and pitching. Have Bryce Harper as a keeper, with ability to hold him for 4 more years on the cheap. Doubtful I can catch the leader in my current state, but who knows? Offered D Wright (semi-expensive keeper), Jay Bruce, T Colvin for Harper, Gerardo Parra (also a keeper on the cheap) and Ty Wig. All three coming my way are somewhat slumping, but all have some good power compared to what I am losing. Still have Victorino/Altuve/Pierre to make up for the speed loss. Not a big Bruce fan, and Colvin is not a lock to start on any given day. Hate the idea of losing Harper, but if I can win now its worth it. Thoughts?
Map out the rest of your lineup for us. It depends on how big of an upgrade Wright and Bruce are over your current players. I will say though, if you are to deal Harper (especially in an NL only) this is the type of deal that you have to seriously consider.
C - M. Maldonado (C Ruiz on DL) C - AJ Ellis 1B - P Goldschmidt Corner - Chipper 3B - Ty Wigginton 2B - Altuve SS - Tyler Green MI - Donovan Solano Util - Garrett Jones OF - Harper OF - Cory Hart OF - Victorino OF - Juan Pierre OF - Parra
We also have a farm team - waiting to call up - Josh Vitters, Dom Brown. 4X4 league
Currently I am 2 in avg, 7 in HR, 8 in RBI, 1 in SB.
My feelings are that if you think that you have a legitimate chance to win you go balls out. If you're too concerned about the future you'll never win now. This is a fair return for Harper if you truly are within striking distance. I'd wait for a few more people to chime in, but that's where I stand.
Updated deal...offered Kemp/Holliday/JJ Putz, for Harper/Gerardo Parra/Kenley Jansen/1st round pick for 2013 (NL Farm pick).
VS original deal of D Wright/Jay Bruce/Tyler Colvin for Harper/Parra/Wigginton.
Interesting options. Have Kenley on the cheap for a keeper next year who I would have to move. More HR potential in the aggregate on the original deal, but more certainty (if there is such a thing) in the revised deal.
