I am thinking about ending my pursuit for Sabathia since his owner wants a 5th round pick in return, along with Viciedo (can be kept in the 18th round).
Brandon McCarthy and Ryan Vogelsong would both be much cheaper options and could possibly put up just as solid of numbers (except for K rate of course).
So which SP do you think would be the better option down the stretch, Brandon McCarthy or Ryan Vogelsong?
I don't know what McCarthy's remaining starts are/who they're against, but I would check to see how many of them are home starts when he gets off the DL.
He had a 1.57 ERA at home and a 3.94 on the road. Both pitchers will get you a lot of QS and solid performances though.
I am trying to decide if I should go for one of the cheaper options like McCarthy and Vogelsong, or if I should just spend the 5th round pick and Viciedo to get Sabathia.
I would go with Vogelsong in this case...McCarthy has been good, but also has been a injury risk this season...Ryan would be the better pick in this situation...give up on CC, or try to give less to get him
Yea man, I would go with Vogelsong if you can get him for a discounted price. He isn't going to be CC, of course...but the guy has been nothing but solid this year. He pitches in a great pitchers park and has been getting plenty of run support from the san fran offense (they have another 7 runs tonight). I never trust guys coming off the DL, like Mccarthy...especially since the guy can't seem to stay healthy.
Vogelsong would be the guy to target. McCarthy has been on and off the DL all year. You dont want to trade for that for a stretch run if he wont be kept. Vogelsong has had fairly good health the last 2 seasons I believe. If I am trading for a guy to get me to a title its not a pitcher who has a chronic injury history.
