I drafted 3 stud closers between pick 125 and 200 and none of them made it to opening day. I know there is a saying to not pay for saves but these were relatively late picks and the draft gets a little blah at that point.
Pretty much everything has killed me though. Early pick busts like mediocrity from Longoria, Pedroia, Napolix2, MYoung and even Kemp's DL stint sank the offense in two leagues. I also didn't start taking pitchers early enough and didn't get lucky in the mid rounds like previous seasons. Worst fantasy season ever.
Not too many that I'm ashamed of but two specific ones come to mind (both happened to be in the same 7 man/13 team keeper league).
In 2009, drafted Cano with hopes of a bounce back campaign. Come next season, was deciding between him and Bruce for my final keeper slot. Yep, the homer in me made the wrong choice. Ended up trading Cano to move up in the draft.
At the end of 2010, was debating which pitcher to keep: Verlander or Lester. Decided on keeping the dirty Sock (where were u to save me Mookie?) and traded Verlander to move up in the draft yet again.
1. Keeping Hosmer as one of my 5 keepers 2. Trade M Holliday for M Young at the beginning of the season, when Holliday was slumping and Young raking hits. I needed a 2B. I finally got rid of M Young for M Bourne
Dropping Latos, thinking I'd get him back (and could have but waited too long), when a rash of injuries led to some serious roster gridlock (and my pitching staff was already super stacked).
