The velocity is down, and he got housed in his first outing.
As a Bosox fan, I'm not in hysterics - but I am certainly glad that Schilling is there to be the new workhorse. I remember hearing talk that Pedro hurt his shoulder in the series against the Yanks last year, and that he had to shift his mechanics to nursemaid it and downplayed its significance.
I still think he is one of the best pitchers in baseball, but I am worried that the days when the Sox could ride him for 20 wins are over. Generally, I am not worried about Spring Training - but Pedro virtually never has an outing like that, especially with his pride and competitive nature...
thoughts?

don't worry- he may not be the guy that can line up complete games or may not be able to throw 98 mph anymore but HE STILL HAS THE BEST STUFF IN THE MAJORS
he doesn't have the huge frame that is necessary to be a strikeout pitcher in the majors late into one's career. so the only thing for him to do his gradually modify pitching style so as to not to try to K every batter. you look at his career path closely thats exactly whats hes been doing, so he should be fine.
and finally even though im not too happy to day this but-
theres a possibility that he might take to closing later in his career if he has too many endurance issues

Manny Ramirez....$20 million
Pedro Martinez....$17.5 million
Curt Schilling...$12 million (and a $2 million bonus)
Never hearing a Yankee fan chant 1918 again...priceless.

It's spring training and I could care less if he had and ERA over 13, like Foulke, and hadn't topped 37 on the radar gun. Pedro is still Pedro and even if has a bad year he still won't have an ERA over 3.2 or so. If by the end of May the tandem of Arroyo/Kim is outpitching him then I'll be worried. Until then he is still the best of the best.

2.90 is actually kinda below average for Pedro

As much as I hate him, Pedro is the best pitcher in the game. His stuff is incredible, challenged only by maybe Prior and Beckett.

Ahh a Yankee fan who can admit that Pedro is the best in the game...refreshing. Comparing Prior to Pedro is ok in my book seeing how incredible Prior was last year but to lump Beckett into that mix is insulting to both Pedro and Prior. Beckett might be good, even very good but he in no way is comparable to either of the other two.

As a Sox Fan, i'm more worried about Foulke, who hasn't been able to top 84 mph on the gun.
