Keeper league trade Mauer for BMac

Postby baseballbro34 » Wed Aug 01, 2012 10:53 pm

I'm in a 12 man H2H keeper league and was wondering what ya'll think of this.

Trade Mauer for Brian McCann.

Roster:
C Mauer
1B Dunn
2B Kipnis
3B Encarnacion
SS Rollins
OF Cabrera
OF Rios
OF Hamilton
Util Garrett Jones
Util Freese
BN Ichiro, Alcides, Dominic Brown

What do you guys think of McCann vs Mauer as a keeper catcher for the next 5 years or so?

From the looks of it, you have enough power with Hamilton, Dunn, and Encarnacion so although McCann beats Mauer 18-6 in the HR department, Mauer is better in every other category outside SLG% and RBI.

Mauer bats about .80 points higher, a significant difference. He also has 1B eligibility for some more flexibility when making your lineup. Mauer scores more runs and draws more walks. Mauer's OBP is over .100 points higher, as well.

I say stick with Joe. As long as he's healthy, he's the superior backstop.

If you are looking for power, then McCann is your man. But if you are looking for the all around better hitter, then Mauer is the guy to go with.

It is a pretty even trade though imo.

You can't trust Dunn long term. McCann will eventually be dealt to an AL team to be an occasional C/DH as most catchers do.

I'd rather have power from catcher slot see, 1b is also a power slot and you don't want a 'hitter' at 1b.
I'd go with Mauer in this case because of your team set up.
The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be!
