Hosmer FOR Motte (WHIR)

Postby BUCCOFAN » Fri Jul 27, 2012 9:28 am

UPDATE - SEE LAST POST IN THIS THREAD

14 team league, deep roster perameters Fantasy Points Auction Keeper League. Players have 3 year contracts then become free agents, We start 2-Catchers 2-1B 2-2B 2-3B 2-SS 5-OF 1-DH 8-Pitchers weekly.......
I hate losing the major upside in Eric Hosmer for 2013, but he has had a terrible season....and is probably my best asset to deal to a rebuilding club. We keep 12 players early, and right now Hosmer is one of my keepers.

I GET: $salary$ (contract year)
P - J.Motte $5 (2) (has one more year keeper eligibility left @ $5, Not usually a fan of closers but this guy looks as safe as they come to be a keeper for 2013)

TRADE AWAY: $salary$ (contract year)
1B - E.Hosmer $8 (2) (has one more year keeper eligibility left @ $8, Having a terrible year but I see a big upside on him)

After this move my starting 1B are (14 team league!!!)
A.Gonzalez $33 (3)
A.Craig $5 (1)

My 8 weekly starting pitchers are:
P - J.Lester $31 (1) (currently on my bench horrible season)
P - J.Zimmermann $5 (3)
P - T.Hudson $4 (1)
P - J.McDonald $6 (1)
P - AJ.Burnett $3 (1)
P - J.Hellickson $3 (3)
P - J.Hanrahan $1 (2)
P - T.Clippard $3 (1)
BENCH:
P - R.Batencourt $6 (1)
P - J.Blanton $1 (1) (waiver wire material when I upgrade here)
P - K.Medlen $1 (1)
DL:
P - S.Marcum $2 (1)
P - J.Niemann $5 (1)

If Saves are the one category that could get you to win it all this year, then make the trade. You may eventually regret it, but if you won something from the trade then it's worth it.

Its a fantasy points structure league,
Scoring System
Scoring for Batting Categories Name Settings
1B Singles 1 point
2B Doubles 2 points
3B Triples 3 points
BB Walks (Batters) 1 point
CS Caught Stealing -1 point
HP Hit by Pitch 1 point
HR Home Runs 4 points
KO Strikeouts (Batter) -1 point
R Runs 1 point
RBI Runs Batted In 1 point
SB Stolen Bases 2 points
Scoring for Pitching Categories Name Settings
BBI Walks Issued (Pitchers) -1 point
BS Blown Saves -5 points
ER Earned Runs -2 points
HA Hits Allowed -1 point
HB Hit Batsmen -1 point
HD Holds 5 points
INN Innings 3 points
K Strikeouts (Pitcher) 1 point
L Losses -5 points
S Saves 10 points
W Wins 10 points

Currently Hosmer has 210FP
Currently Motte has 335FP

I just feel that Allen Craig (STL) should have great value going into 2013 as my (#2) keeper @ 1B, The question is should I score more then Motte in return? the bonus is Motte has a keeper year left @$5, solid.

It would appear that batters tend to score more than closers if they're having a good year, yes? Saves are ten points but all the hits and peripherals should eclipse a solid saves year it seems.

I suppose it depends on how much of a risk taker you are. If you think Hosmer is going to turn it around next year, keep him and roll with Hanrahan/Betancourt if you choose to keep one or both of them. Motte is a great value, true, but Hosmer has potential to be much more. Right now I'm not sure you could more than Motte for Hosmer, but I bet that he would gain trade value heading into next season when the post-hype machine starts.

I would hold on Hosmer, or if the other person believes in him, ask for a little more if you really felt like moving him.

Thanks allot.....for the info, thats how I feel too. Currently I am in 1st place by 300FP, but wouldn't mind the insurance to my rotation. The other owner also has Cueto $3 (2) available, but says he wants more then just Hosmer straight up, and I don't think I can make that work.

Blanton and Hosmer for Cueto? Then again, he's rebuilding. Hellickson and Hosmer for Cueto and motte?

Those are actually not some bad offers. I am a big fan of Cueto, he is a stud. You might be able to ask for a little more if the other owner is a believer in Hosmer. Hosmer should be able to get you a nice return in keeper leagues.

I wouldn't. I'd hang onto Hosmer. Especially in a keeper. I get that you want the closer, but I don't think it's worth it IMO. If you could pull of one of those other trades the others mentioned, I'd rather do that. But Hosmer for Motte straight up, I'll pass. Thanks for the help on mine.

So the consensus here is Hosmer $8 (2) for Motte $5 (2) is a non starter. Motte being the closer.

HOWEVER would anyone here bite on the following starters that have a year of control remaining in a 1 for 1 swap for Hosmer?

1. Cueto $3 (2) (one year left at that value)
2. Kennedy $1 (2) (one year left at that value)

I have a feeling that I might have to add more to get a deal done, from the other owner, but I just can't justify it.

I got a 400 Fantasy Point lead being in 1st place with about 2 months left in the season.

Thanks for the help with mine...... I would much rather have Cueto for your last post. I'm not a fan of trading bats for pitchers....... Especially RP's....... They show up during the year ALL the time. Even if Hosmer is having an off year, I wouldn't trade him for Motte.
