I'm still surprised, given the recent talk about keeping him down in the minors for seasoning. They say he'll be an everyday OF. Are the Pirates bringing him up to dangle for last-minute trade offers?
Yeah I wouldn't expect too much. He's bad at stealing bases and hasn't shown much HR power. People have been spoiled seeing Trout and Harper and get their hopes too high for guys like this. Chances are there's somebody better sitting on waivers in most leagues.
I can't see the Pirates trading him either, because their business model of having an extremely low team salary and selling off players after they become successful is making them too much money. Being a terrible baseball team on a tight budget is a surprisingly lucrative endeavour. It's nice that they traded for Wandy, but there's little financial incentive to break the bank in order to snag a wild card spot and have a 50% chance at making the actual playoffs.
I guess they probably can't give him too much leash considering their situation, but really what are their other options (outside of a trade)? Alex Presley? Drew Sutton? Not sure they'd provide much of an improvement even if Marte were to come up and struggle.
for the rest of the season I could see him getting around 5+ HR with 10+ steals as long as they let him run. plus he's batting leadoff, so there's runs scored as well.

I think you're likely to see Marte and Presley splitting time in the OF and at lead off, with neither really being all that productive.
Off to a nice start. Got to admit, I have a soft spot for the Pirates and how things are looking for them this season. (Jays fan here, Expos before that)
