Victorino / Swisher to drop?

Postby Pav » Tue Jul 24, 2012 7:44 pm

I am in 2nd place fighting for 1st. I want to shore up my roster and make the push for playoffs and possibly win.

Victorino - is the only guy really give me SBs. A wrist injury appears to be the major problem which affects him when facing RHP. The situation is apparently going to persist for the rest of the year. Hard for me to be enthusiastic about his prospects under the circumstances. And now hit in the elbow and out a few games. Doesn't seem to be a big deal, but might miss a game or two. Of course, given the season to date, this could be another injury he plays through with diminished returns.

So what best complements my roster vs my league settings in H2H?

H2H-mixed, 12 team, daily. Can only have 2BN.

I am surprised by some of the guys on your ww in a 12 team league. the name of the game is upside. Victorino and Swisher are names, but honestly are not even the top 150 guys in the league and don't have much upside to win it for you each week. I would take a shot with a couple of your ww guys with more upside like Plouffe (great multiple spot elig, but watch current injury - could go on dl), Pedro Alvarez (just mashing it - sad I missed out on this ww addition myself), Routledge (great upside).
My advice drop both Victorino and Swisher and ad Alvarez and Routledge

You could switch out Victorino for Jennings easily enough to keep most of the production that Victorino has provided this year. I am not sure if he'll ever get back to .280 for this year, but if you're worried about average then skip Jennings. Same goes for Alvarez and Swisher. Get Alvarez for a bigger power boost but be prepared for some slumps. I'm not sure if he's the safest long term gamble for your playoff hopes.

Therefore, I would say drop Swisher for Ike Davis to get the power/improving average combination. If you really want SBs, drop Victorino for Jennings. If you don't care about SBs, drop Victorino for Alvarez. If Alvarez eventually makes you impatient, there are apparently plenty of other options.
