For some reason it's difficult to be sympathetic to whinny Yankee fans...it must be rough to root for that team, what a disaster they are. :-°

According to wOBA, a homerun is worth around 2.34 singles

Quick calculation based on that: If baseball reference says he has 2,534 hits, of which 295 are 2B, 79 are 3B, and 99 are HR (for a total of 473 xbh) that means based on 2,061/2.34, Ichiro has the equivalent of around 881 HRs (rounded to nearest whole number). JFTL calculations I suppose. Wouldn't that make him pretty valuable? :-b

To make it really simple we could just look at wOBA. Ichiro is the kind of guy who's hitting is greatly overrated. Empty batting average. Still, as a 4th OF its a great addition. I'm sure he'll be good for ratings, too.

Ichiro has been an overrated fantasy commodity for the better part of the past 10 years..but lets not overlook his MLB contribution

.330 with 45 SB speed and gold glove defense for an extended period at the top of an order is as valuable as it sounds..Ichiro is a no doubter hall of famer and a legend in my book. Nothing overrated about his legacy.
Why don't they just get a house that's already painted?

Offensively he's been much more valuable in fantasy than in reality over the better part of the past 10 years.

Yup, backwards thinking...avg and sb are valuable in fantasy but not nearly as much in real life.

Offensively, you're right. He's been a tremendous player in reality (elite, even) but has derived much of his value from defense and baserunning.
