I'm in 2nd place in a 10 team, H2H, non-keeper mixed Yahoo league. I'm pretty much assured on making the playoffs (6 teams get through), but I haven't been doing good lately (2-8 this week, yuck) and I wonder if its time for some changes. There are a ton of big name guys on the wire right now - most of these have been having sub-par seasons and they have been dropped in the last few weeks by frustrated owners. By Yahoo o-ranks, the highest ranked are:
Desmond Jennings, Michael Young, Ichiro, Chris Young, Cameron Maybin, Markakis, and Jesus Montero.
I also was looking at the ESPN mid-season re-rankings they just did. In their list they have several other guys who are available ranked pretty high for rest of year, including:
Colby Rasmus, Erick Aybar, Pedro Alvarez, Alcides Escobar, Lorenzo Cain
I've had a lot of injuries and I've been riding hot players to get by, but I wonder if it might be smarter to grab one or 2 of these guys hoping that they come around in time to help me thru the playoffs. My current team is below. (Note that I am going to have to drop 2 players when I activate Pedroia and Ortiz, and I currently have no idea who to drop - probably Colvin and Ross if he ever slows down, or else Lind? So I'm not sure if I can squeeze anyone else in anyway!)
C Miguel Montero 1B: Konerko 2B: Plouffe 3B: Beltre SS: Bonafacio OF: Ellsbury, Bruce, Willingham UTIL: Cody Ross, Adam Lind BN: Reddick, Colvin DL: Pedroia, Ortiz (Pedroia elligible for activation but I want to wait until he proves he can play again)

Over the last month or so, not many guys have been better than Alvarez. I'm shocked he's available. I would definitely take a shot on him or Rasmus. Owned Rasmus for much of this year and loved him. Just recently traded him though and he's cooled down since. If it were me, I would snag Alvarez.
Its true that Alvarez has been crazy hot of late, but he doesn't have much of a track record, and I already picked up Cody Ross (who was just a bit crazier and hotter) But my question really is, would it be smart to pick up a guy who has been a stud for years? Someone like Michael Young for example? Sure he has been pretty bad thus far but he's been a 100 RBI / 100 Run guy and a 300+ hitter for years. He is getting a bit old, but I don't think his age is to blame for his season - unlike Ichiro, who I think is close to done...
