Really Confused About This Trade: Do it or no? WHIR 100%

Postby billthebutcher17 » Fri Jul 20, 2012 1:27 pm

I posted this trade the other day, but I got only a few responses and they were very mixed.

Just been offered this trade and I think I might do it, but wanted some advice and insight from you guys:

I GIVE: Pablo Sandoval
I GET: Jake Peavy, Jose Valverde, Todd Frazier

This is a 12 Team, h2h category league, currently in second place, but comfortable lead in division. I'm thinking I could platoon Alvarez and Frazier at 3B for the rest of the season. If you did the trade, what two players would you drop? I'm thinking Norris and someone.

Runs, RBI, HR, SB, OPS, AVG

Wins, Saves, Holds, WHIP, ERA, K's

My team

C- S. Perez
1B- Votto (DL) So using Butler at first
2B- Allen Craig
3B-Pablo Sandoval
SS- Alexei Ramirez
OF- J. Upton, Carl Crawford, Jay Bruce, Shin shoo Choo(We start 4)
UTIL- Pedro Alvarez
UTIL- Delmon Young
Bench: Tyler Colvin, Anthony Rizzo, Adam Lind
DL- Mike Stanton and Votto

SP: Johan Santana
Cole Hamels
J. Zimmermann
Cliff Lee
M Bumgardner
AJ Burnett
Michael fiers
Max Scherzer
Bud Norris
Brandon Morrow (DL)

RP: Rodney, Motte, Grilli

It's probably fair, but I don't know if you really need to do it. Your pitching staff looks quite good as it is, so are you trying to get Valverde mainly to help out your closers? With that staff and Stanton/Votto out for a bit, you may want to hang onto the solid hitting source then gamble with some kind of platoon scenario.

I chimed in on your last thread and still feel the same way. I don't trust Peavy to stay healthy. Pablo is a stud offensive performer & I don't trust Pedro Alvarez to remain productive all season. I would platoon him and one of Delmon, Rizzo, Colvin out of that UTL spot. Leave Pablo at 3B and you won't have to worry about it all season. You don't really need Valverde & the headache that comes with owning him. He has been awful in the 2nd half in each of the past 2 seasons. I really don't see how this would make you better ... at all.

I appreciate the feedback guys. If I could get the guy to replace Peavy with David Price would that change anything?

It would certainly make it more fair, but again, I'm not sure your pitching needs him compared to your offense needing Sandoval.

I would give Pablo for Price .... if it's what my team needed. Who does he have at 3B? Maybe you could throwing a lesser SP to acquire a decent 3B in return. Maybe a Johan for Moustakas swap or something along those lines. At least it would give another serviceable bat to couple with Alvarez. Of course ... I would REALLY need to be struggling in my pitching categories to do this.

I simply don't understand why you're trying to deal your only 3B for a SP when your staff is pretty solid. I just doesn't make much sense to me... and I wouldn't be comfortable at all with Alvarez as my starting 3B.

As for the trade itself, I probably wouldn't do it with Peavy but I think the value is there with Price (but see my above comment again).
