Giants vice president Bobby Evans told Andrew Baggarly of CSNBayArea.com that a report that the club acquired Hunter Pence from the Phillies is "not accurate."
Jon Heyman of CBS Sports and Jim Bowden of ESPN.com and MLB Network Radio are reporting that the two clubs have reached agreement, but Evans said there's "no deal" and that they are "working through many options." However, it's possible he is waiting for physicals to be completed before confirming. Danny Knobler of CBS Sports reports that prospect catcher Tommy Joseph will be traded to Philadelphia if a deal is completed.

When you buy a car one year and decide to sell it the next, you're not going to make all your money back. Pence isn't a FA yet but at $14M he's not your typical arbitration eligible player, either. Assets lose value over time. Prime example: Dom Brown.

And don't feel too bad about it. The Jays just traded two of their "left fielders of the future" for relief pitchers.

Tommy Joseph is a pretty good prospect and Schierholtz can probably put up similar value to Pence for a lot less money. I'd hardly be upset as a Phillies fan.

You really shouldn't be mad at the Pence return. Considering what Hunter brings + contract, it was a very reasonable deal. On the other hand, you've got every right to be mad at the haul the Sto's took from Philly for Hunter.
