I don't know what type of deal the Cubs and Giants could have had going, but Soriano wont go to SF.
According to Jim Bowden of ESPN.com and MLB Network Radio on Sirius XM, Alfonso Soriano has told the Cubs that he will not accept a trade to the Giants.
the Cubs have apparently been trying hard to include Soriano in a trade. they wanted to include him with Dempster to the Dodgers.
Cubs recieve Arodys Vizcaino in the Maholm deal. Quite a high upside return for a pitcher who no one wanted to sign (Maholm) and a utility outfielder . I remember reading last week that Braves fans were happy to be sending off Delgado in lieu of trading Teheran and Vizcaino. With as many pitchers coming back from TJ as there are these days, certainly worth the gamble for TheoJed.
Just looked up Snider's stats, and he's spent part of 5 seasons with the big league team. Crazy. He still seems so raw. There's a lot of anger coming form Jays fans regarding the trade but I don't think it's terrible. Would have been nice to have given Snider more of a prolongued opportunity rather than this Rajai Davis/Ben Francisco/etc crap and whatnot, but what can ya do? I guess we cross our fingers that Lincoln can remain as surprisingly effective as he's been in the bullpen, because he certainly seems like he can't cut it as a starter.
This AA obsession with relief pitching is getting quite old. And trading an asset like Snider, a guy who's floor is likely a league-average LF, for a reliever makes little sense. There are just easier ways to build a pen than this.
