Houston has traded Chris Johnson to Arizona. mlbtraderumors.com
The Diamondbacks have acquired third baseman Chris Johnson from the Astros for minor league outfielders Marc Krauss and Bobby Borchering, the teams announced. Borchering, 21, was Arizona's first round pick in the 2009 draft while Krauss, 24, was taken in the second round of the same draft.
I was wondering if Jimmy Paredes would be coming up, he's been hitting well in AAA. but it appears maybe not, and the Astros could intentionally be playing for last place? http://www.crawfishboxes.com/2012/7/28/ ... ther-stuff
The other side of this coin is what it says about our friends currently in AAA. More and more, it's looking as if Houstonians will not see Brett Wallace, Jimmy Paredes, Fernando Martinez, Brandon Barnes, or any of the other top performing minor leaguers in 2012. More likely, the Astros are playing for the 1st overall draft pick in 2013 and will begin next season with a lineup that looks oddly similar to this season's AAA lineup. It would be an interesting strategy to see if so many players being brought up all at once after playing together for a full season will negate any first-year jitters one sometimes sees with a very young roster in the majors.
who gets to play 3B for Houston now? Steve Pearce?

Wow what a rip off A crap batting eye, 3B butcher for a potentially good hitter in Krauss and a lottery ticket in Borchering. And Johnson's about to hit arbitration too.
Towers dropped the ball on this one.

Johnson has this season and next season on his rookie contract, and arbitration starts in 2014. Free agent in 2017... so he'll be cheap as hell for a while and is an above average MLB hitter. Seems like the exact player the Astros would want to keep. A lot of people highly over-value prospects, especially older ones like Kraus who is repeating AA at 24 years old. I don't know that Johnson is much better than Ryan Roberts, but he's certainly cheaper. Kind of a curious move on behalf of the Astros.
There's some rumors floating around that the Giants have acquired Hunter Pence from the Phillies, pending ownership approval; but there seems to be some facts getting crossed up...

Hmmm... On the radio they were saying that there's really no way we could get Pence at this time... most likely gonna make a move for a mid-reliever (possibly a closer but I doubt it). Who knows.
According to a report by KPIX-TV, the San Francisco Giants have a "deal in place" for Philadelphia Phillies right fielder Hunter Pence, pending ownership approval.
But Giants' VP Bobby Evans texted KPIX-TV that a deal has not been done, however, so it's unknown whether Pence is really on the Giants yet.
Assuming that the trade did happen, unconfirmed reports have stated that the Giants parted ways with their second ranked prospect, catcher Tommy Joseph.
Reed Johnson on the move for the Cubs. Not sure where he is heading yet but putting 1 and 1 together on twitter (I know dangerous) it looks like he is on the move to Detroit for Single A starter Thomas Collier. Also Brett Jackson pulled from the AAA Cubs game, possible debut tomorrow?
Reed Johnson as well as Geovany Soto have both apparently been traded.
The Cubs have traded Geovany Soto to an unknown team, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports tweets. This trade isn't related to the Reed Johnson deal, according to Rosenthal. The Mets have had interest in trading for Soto. The Nationals, Rays and Rangers have also been seeking catching depth, Rosenthal tweets.
Soto, 29, has a .195/.278/.345 batting line in 194 plate appearances this year. The 2008 NL Rookie of the Year earns $4.3MM in 2012 and is on track to go to arbitration for the third time this offseason. However, he could be non-tendered given his salary.
