My Fielder for Greinke? WHIR

Postby ron paul for pres » Tue Jul 17, 2012 2:14 pm

12 team, H2H, 5x5, non-keeper

I just upgraded my starting pitching by trading for Darvish. This move would solidify SP as a strength for me, but is Fielder too much to give up? I could either slide Butler to 1B and pick up a DH (Montero, Morneau, Doumit, Dirks and Damon are available) or slide Miggy to 1B (and pick up Middlebrooks).

C - Ruiz
1B - Fielder
2B - Kinsler
3B - Miggy
SS - A Cabrera
OF - Hamilton
OF - Beltran
OF - A Jackson
DH - Butler
BN - Bruce
BN - Morse

SP - Strasburg
SP - Cueto
SP - Darvish
SP - Johan
SP - Lynn
SP - Dempster
SP - Garza
SP - Moore
SP - Bauer
SP - McCarthy (DL)
RP - Clippard
RP - Putz
RP - Axford
RP - Capps
DL - Storen

I forgot that Morse can play 1B. So he's also an option to replace Fielder.

While I would normally DRAFT Fielder ahead of Greinke, based on what your team looks like now, I think I would be inclined to move Miggy to first and pick up Middlebrooks. Not sure if that's because I'm biased as a Sox fan, but I think Middlebrooks is a solid pickup and Greinke would be an upgrade on most of your pitchers (also bearing in mind that Strasburg may only have another 60 innings to go this year!)

I like the thoughts on this.

If it were my team I'd try for a better SP than Greinke for Fielder or I'd try to package (2) starters for an upgrade...always easier said than done I know.

Mine please?

In your situation with some replacement options it probably makes sense but I'd see if you could get a SP just ahead of Greinke. Take a shot at Weaver, Hamels, Felix or Cain depending on preference but if this is the top SP you can get then I'd go for it.

Thanks for your help on mine.

Just pulled the trigger. And I like the idea of adding Middlebrooks. But who to drop? 11 SPs is too many, so I'm thinking Moore. He's struggled this year and Bauer and McCarthy might have more upside. Thoughts?

New roster

C - Ruiz
1B - Miggy
2B - Kinsler
3B - Middlebrooks
SS - A Cabrera
OF - Hamilton, Beltran, A Jackson
DH - Butler
BN - Bruce, Morse

SP - Strasburg, Greinke, Cueto, Darvish, Johan, Lynn, Dempster, Moore, Bauer, McCarthy (DL)
RP - Clippard, Putz, Axford, Capps
DL - Storen

I think you overpaid honestly, but I do value hitters more then SP'ers.
