What's Adrian Beltre's Value in an AL-Only Keeper Format?

Postby bryanjwilson » Tue Jul 17, 2012 11:33 am

Hi guys, got an intriguing offer for Beltre in my league: Francisco Lindor + a 1st round pick (likely in the 7-9 range) of the supplemental draft after the auction for minors/reserves. I'm almost certainly out of the running this year, and while I have Beltre locked up at a pretty good price for another year, I'm worried about his age and think this might be decent value in return. Any thoughts?

League format: 10 team, AL-only, keeper, OBP/R/HR/RBI/SB, W/K/ERA/WHIP/S
Keeper format: Once drafter, a player is in his 'A' year, can be kept at that price through year 'C' or re-upped at any time for $5 per additional year
Roster format: C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, MI, CI, 4 OF, Util, 3 Bench, 3 Minors, 8 P

My current roster:
C Ryan Doumit (picked up for $0 in minors/reserve draft)
1B Adrian Gonzalez (62 A)
2B Jason Kipnis (5 A)
3B Adrian Beltre (16 B)
SS Alexi Casilla (1 A)
CR Will Middlebrooks (21 A)
MI Robert Andino (3 A)
OF Yoenis Cespedes (22 A)
OF Nick Markakis (24 A)
OF Josh Reddick (1 B)
OF Nick Swisher (7 C)
Util David Ortiz (15 C)

Bench 1B Justin Morneay (7 A)
Bench 2B Johnny Giavotella (8 A)
Bench OF Quinton Berry (2 A)
Bench OF Leonys Martin (reserve)

Minors OF Wil Myers
Minors OF Mason Williams
Minors P Danny Hultzen

P Brett Cecil (1 A)
P Ernesto Frieri (3 A)
P Greg Holland (5 A)
P Derek Holland (1 C)
P Phil Hughes (1 C)
P Ricky Romero (11 A)
P Kohi Uehara (reserve)
P Jose Valverde (9 C)

DL P Dan Haren (40 A)
DL P Philip Humber (2 B)
DL P Daisuke Matsuzaka (2 A)
DL P Mariano Rivera (22 A)

I think Beltre's got a few more years in him, so I wouldn't sell him off due to age worries. Players like A.Soriano, D.Jeter, and the like are the ones truly getting up there but are having good seasons. They would be worth selling off, but Beltre should get more value. Just don't tell anyone you're worried about a 33 year old.
