SD: Earlier in the season when Street went down for a month or so I recommended Thayer over Gregerson. Reasoning being that Gregerson's control was off and Thayer was looking pretty good. At this point it looks like Gregerson has regained his control and is back to his 2010 ways. Still, he's struggled mightily with the closer role throughout his career (career 14% SV%) while performing extremely well in the 8th. I think you have to go with Thayer again.
MIA: It's still Cishek in Miami until Bell strings up a couple saves in a row (and he will be given the opportunity to do so). And even then, it wouldn't surprise anyone to see Bell implode and Cishek regain the closer role.
SF: Affedlt over Romo in terms of save opportunities as Romo can't pitch as often due to durability issues. Romo is freaking ridiculous though so he's worth owning regardless.

Padres manager Bud Black indicated that Dale Thayer could fill in at closer if Huston Street (calf) requires a stint on the disabled list.
Thayer and Luke Gregerson are being considered for save chances. We'd expect Thayer to assume the role he held when Street was out in earlier this season, but Gregerson could be an option if he struggles. It's also possible the Padres could use a closer-by-committee. Both pitchers are worth stashing away if you need saves.
looks like Thayer over Gregerson.

Tim Dierkes @closernews
A's Bob Melvin told reporters including @SusanSlusser that Cook will not close in next game or two and will go to closer-by-committee
committee. have to figure Balfour is the leading candidate, but also Doolittle in there too?

So, how would you rank:
Thayer
Balfour
Wilton Lopez
Affeldt
Gregerson
For the remainder of the year?

Up by 2 in the 8th, Ozzie brought in $27 Bell. He's as done as a goose as their closer.
Also, Lopez comes in the 9th with a 1 run lead and blows it by giving up a double and single to the 1st 2 batters.

I'd go Gregerson over Thayer. Gregerson had been pitching the eighth and has been pitching brilliantly as of late. It's a close race between these two and only for 2-3 weeks (until Street gets back) and they won't get many opportunities so the overall return is small.

Anyone think Bailey gets the gig back in Boston sooner rather than later?

I don't really. Aceves has been pretty darn solid lately.
