Keeper Help (WHIR)

Postby Ol' Uncle Munnerlyn » Fri Jul 13, 2012 2:26 pm

I am in a 12 team, 10 category H2H league where we can keep 3 Hitters and 2 Pitchers. My team is as follows:

C: Yadier Molina
1B: Ryan Howard
2B: Daniel <urphy
3B: Trevor Plouffe
SS: Jimmy Rollins
OF: Jay Bruce
OF: Matt Kemp
OF: Melky Cabrera
UTIL: David Ortiz
UTIL: Michael Cuddyer
BN: Chase Headley
BN: Yasmani Grandal
DL: Evan Longoria
DL: Lance Berkman

P: Jon Lester
P: Jair Jurrjens
P: Jose Quintana
P: Michael Fiers
SP: Gio Gonzalez
SP: Ryan Vogelsong
SP: Jered Weaver
RP: Fernando Rodney
RP: Jim Johnson
BN: Brandon McCarthy

Alright, so my question is this: What hitters do I keep? I'm already pretty solid on Gio and Weaver as my keeper Pitchers, and Kemp and Longoria as 2 of my 3 keeper Hitters, but who should the 3rd be? It'll obviously be one of Bruce/Melky/Ortiz, but which one? I've been wavering for a while. I used to be set on Bruce, but then I ended up acquiring Melky (same deal I got Weaver in) and he has been amazing, plus Papi is Papi. The only reason I'd discount Ortiz is his age, but that hasn't seemed to slow him down. Plus, age is far less damning in Baseball than it is in other sports.

So, what do you guys think? Bruce? Melky? Ortiz?

Right now the final guy is Bruce. You still have 2+ months though. A lot of change.

I think it might be melky. The kid has had an awesome year and he's shown signs of this potential ever since he was on the Yankees a few years back. Bruce is also a solid option, but i think that i might go with melky. It comes down to whether or not you think you need power numbers or more of a contact hitter. Melky's hitting .355 right now, .100 points higher than Bruce. With a healthy Kemp and Longo next year, I don't think you'll need much more power, especially if you can pick up some home run hitters. It's much harder to get someone who will hit .325 or higher.

On other notes, Gio and Weaver are solid. Wish you could hold onto Vogelsong too. He could be a monster next year.

Help on mine?
