I heard somewhere that Schilling asked the Red Sox not to pitch him against any AL East opponents (i.e. Yankees) this regular season in order to have a "surprise" factor in the playoffs.
Is there any truth to this? If so this is a sizable jump in his value.

I was going over my old draft sheets and wrote this note in next to Schilling's name but then forgot about it.
I thought I heard it from ESPN back in early March but don't quote me on this.
If this is true you gotta hand it to this guy for doing whatever he can for the sox (e.g. world series incentive laden contract)

cool thanks
yeah it would be nice for pitches to dictate to teams which opponents he's only welling to play against

It had to have been a ST thing - if he doesn't pitch against anyone in the AL East - like New York, Baltimore, Toronto - Boston might not make the playoffs to surprise someone.
