12 team 5x5 league
Pitching staff is as follows:
SP:
Hamels
Greinke
Gonzalez
A. Sanchez
Vogelsong
Romero
RP:
Motte
Clippard
Frieri
I just got Sanchez and Romero in a trade, and I'm not sold on Romero, I don't want him to destroy my ERA/WHIP, so I was thinking about grabbing Cashner now.

Romero was just dropped in my league, and it is only 8 teams. Having said that, I may hold onto him for a bit. Neither guy is automatic.

In fantasy baseball, it's hard to avoid the knee-jerk reactions to an up-n-coming prospect. I'll be honest, I dropped Cuddyer for Cashner yesterday on "potential" alone but left other quality SP on the wire. There's no guarantee that I made the right move but I've watched other prospects get scooped and I didn't want to get left behind. I can't see how dropping Romero would help you in a 12-team league. If you drop Romero and Cashner comes up lame after a couple starts, I doubt Romero still will be there. I understand your concerns but I'd be patient for the time being.

I would hold onto Romero and just not start him for a few starts... his track record shows that he could have a good second half.
Help with mine:

I think i would do it, Romero has been terrible and Cashner at least has upside. I'm in a similar situation, i have Romero in an AL-only league, i wanna drop him but the best i can pick is Liriano. He's been good lately but I'm not sure he's any more trustworthy than Romero. Any opinions on that?

yoru top 5 are solid so you have room to risk and make the move, but I would not dump Romero. He has too much 'name' value to just drop. See if you can do another trade first.
I would dump a bench bat that is useless for Cashner if you have any.
The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be!
