the only other Pirates prospect I know of Gerrit Cole. I'm not saying it would center around Marte. I was just wondering about Marte for personal reasons as I'm stashing Marte hoping he gets to play this season. I think for me personally I would rather Upton not be traded to Pittsburgh, and for Pittsburgh to not trade for another OF. that way Marte is more likely to get a chance to play in the 2nd half.

Aside from Cole, the Pirates also have Jameson Taillon, who many project as a future Ace along with Cole. One would assume that one of these guys would have to be included in any deal to Arizona for Justin Upton. We're likely just pipe dreaming here, though. Interesting to see how it all plays out.
They can't be serious. The Brewers have been hanging right around 5 games under for more than a month. Do they really think things are going to turn around, and they're going to catch the Pirates AND Reds, who are 6-8 games in front? I honestly keep wishing they'd just get it over with and go on a nice long losing streak so that this heartbreak of a season can just effing get done and we can make out with some nice prospects for Greinke and/or K-Rod.
Greinke didn't choose to sign on with an agent following Cain's huge contract just for the hell of it. He's going to get paid. And Milwaukee can't afford him, talks have already all but broken down for an extension. Gonna have to make do with Marcum and hopefully a serviceable FA replacement.
i cant imagine the DBacks parting with Upton for anything less than 2 of Cole/Taillon/Marte + another one of their top 10 prospects. perhaps Sanchez (bu AZ just extended Montero) or Hanson? Maybe Bell? maybe too much? i just feel like the DBacks can demand a huge haul and some team would absolutely be willing to do it

Ya if they do trade Upton I would not be at all surprised if it turns out that either A) he never develops any more as a hitter or B) he has some kind of serious injury that keeps him off the field quite bit over the next 2+ seasons. nobody knows a player like his own team does.

If the Rangers get Hamels, the pennant is theirs. Him+Darvish (If he doesn't fall off a cliff due to workload) would be unbelievable, especially with Colby Lewis, Matt Harrison, and that unbelievable bullpen behind them. Not to mention that offense. Scary.
They keep saying that they don't want to give up any of Profar, Olt, or Perez though. Something tells me they'd dangle Profar if they could trade and then extend Hamels.
I don't quite understand the reasoning behind some of these negotiations. It seems rather arrogant to not want to divest of a "can't miss" prospect in order to acquire an MVP/CY candidate veteran in their prime. I don't know enough about the game to be able to fully understand these types of trades that always involve prospects, but I know that Matt LaPorta was a "can't miss," "Braun clone" etc. according to pundits back when people said the Brewers were ripped off by the Indians for Sabathia. It almost seems like the game of baseball considers a bird in the hand to be < a bird in the bush.
