I get Curtis Granderson, Heath Bell, Alfonso Soriano He gets Justin Upton, Adam Wainwright, Jeremy Hellickson
Tom Wilhelmsen instead of Bell is also an option, but I don't know about his hold on the closer role with League pitching well.. a blowup or two could be the end of him.
My team is:
C Yadier Molina 1B Prince Fielder 2B Ian Kinsler 3B Pablo Sandoval SS Alcides Escobar OF Hunter Pence OF Adam Jones OF Justin Upton UT David Ortiz BN Andrelton Simmons BN Brandon Moss DL Emilio Bonifacio
SP Jered Weaver SP Dan Haren SP Felix Hernandez SP Adam Wainwright SP Chris Capuano SP Jeremy Hellickson SP Kyle Lohse SP Scott Diamond SP Jose Quintana SP Travis Wood SP Carlos Zambrano SP Josh Beckett SP Dylan Bundy RP Fernando Rodney
With Bell rolling along nicely and Soriano actually hitting some HR, I like the deal. You can certainly afford to lose the pitching, and Upton just isn't getting it done. I would take it.
Bell has been pitching like his usual self in the last month. Wilhelmsen has been great, but League is also pitching well.. so I feel like any trouble he's in is an excuse for Wedge to throw League back into the closer role.
I don't like this deal for you. You're giving up too much starting pitching, IMO. Waino is really starting to look like his old self. Weaver is a stud (as long as his back doesn't flare up again) but Haren hasn't been right this year and King Felix hasn't been great either. Granderson is an upgrade over Upton based on what they've done so far this season but would you be surprised if they post similar numbers from this point forward? I would not. I get that you need a RP but I would look for other opportunities. I would not make this trade.
The power and SVs I would get from this deal would be greatly appreciated.
I am currently 2nd in the league in most offensive categories, but that is misleading and very front-loaded on the season.. I've been struggling offensively for over a month now. My entire team has been in a slump, and I don't know if I can afford that.
I dropped from 1st in the division, and 3rd overall best record at the end of May to now 2nd in the division and 8th overall in a 16 team league... with four divisions, and two wild cards, that means I'm basically not in playoff contention right now, and my team hasn't been getting better lately on offense.
I've got a lot of guys who were power guys last year, that aren't getting it done..
Prince Fielder is hitting for a nice average, but is on pace for a career low in HR's I think.. Ian Kinsler's power is gone too, it seems.. I'm relying on David Ortiz and Adam Jones to carry my team, but who knows when the bottom will drop out on Jones' career year.
I don't like this deal for you. I don't think Granderson is much of an upgrade over Upton, especially since he's started to play better recently. And Wainwright has really been pitching well recently and might be your best pitcher. Soriano doesn't help you at all and giving up Hellickson as well? Too much I say.
