My Team is a Disaster - What to Do? WHIR

Postby sigriffey » Sun Jun 24, 2012 4:23 pm

I am in first, but about to take a 12-2 wacking, the 3rd lost week of the month of June. Everything is trending very much in the wrong way, and if I don't some moves soon, the sh*t is really going to hit the fan. Any suggestions of who to move?

12 Team H2H DAILY LEAGUE with 6 Keepers Season to Season, each for 3 years max. * means a keeper entering this season
Stat Categories: R, 1B, 2B, 3B, HR, RBI, SB, BB, AVG -- IP, CG, W, L, ER, ERA, K, SV, WHIP

MY CURRENT TEAM

C Jesus Montero (seems like a shell of what we expected of him)
1B Prince Fielder* (he's been decent)
2B Dustin Pedroia* (playing hurt, but when I bench him he gets 3 hits... go figure)
3B Miguel Cabrera* (he's been highly disappointing relative to last year)
SS Hanley Ramirez* (this guy's dedication to the game is highly questionable)
OF Curtis Granderson (great power but really lousy average)
OF Giancarlo Stanton (horribly inconsistent)
OF Austin Jackson (traded for him recently)
UT David Ortiz (traded for him recently)
UT Eric Hosmer (is he gonna get it going? I'm shopping him)
UT Colby Rasmus (grabbed off wire, has been a nice add)
BN Rickie Weeks (just grabbed him off the wire - hold or toss?)
BN Ben Revere (solid)
DL Jacoby Ellsbury (need him back ASAP)
DL Carl Crawford (see Ells)
DL Emilio Bonifacio (see Crawford)

SP Clayton Kershaw
SP Cole Hamels
SP CC Sabathia
RP Aroldis Chapman (one closer is pointless right now, and he's been bad of late. Trying to move him asap)
RP Chris Sale
P Matt Cain
P Yovani Gallardo (just traded for him. He's not amazing but it's something)
P Anibal Sanchez (he's awful, I'd give him away for mild return)
BN P Tim Lincecum (very frustrating, but I trust him over Anibal or Samardzija, which is sad)
BN Jeff Samardzija (would trade him in a heartbeat)
DL Roy Halladay

Stay the course. Your team is too talented to tank.

You might also consider stocking up on high-grade mid-RPs for cheap. With L, ERA, ER, SV, and WHIP as cats, these guys will be immensely beneficial. I'd go for four of them to fill out your RP/P situation and trade away your mediocre starters. Stay with Kershaw/CC/Hamels/Cain/Gallardo/Lince and the rest as RPs. Target guys like Romo, Strop, Pestano, etc...

Or you can couple some high-grade mid-RPs like Romo with guys like Perkins and Benoit for vulture saves.

Either way, it's a tactic that I have found very useful given certain league settings like those you're in.

A few q's:

-Is Chapman (back) a concern? He's been awful.
-Should I deal for Derek Jeter to spell Hanley when he's mired in a huge funk?
-Any suggestions on guys to target/move to generate more offensive consistency? I blame some of it on not having my table setters (DL)

1. Chapman is too valuable in a keeper to simply 'move.' He's got the potential to be the best closer in baseball. I'd either try to deal him to someone who's a CIN fanatic, or wait it out.

2. I wouldn't trade for a fill-in SS. Why not just go after a guy like Scutaro on the wire?

3. I'd look to trade guys you'll be benching when your DLs come back: Rasmus, Revere, Weeks.
I'd also look to shop Granderson and Stanton. Big names pull big values. Maybe pair Grandy or Stanton with someone for Braun/McCutch?

I can't believe you have this team...its just sick. If THAT'S your team in a 12 team league losing 14-1 is clearly a fluke. You sir, are a fantastic manager to be able to put that team together via keepers.

In a 12 team league, usually you'll have a weakness at at least one position...you have studs at all of them except catcher, but Montero is a valid option for a 12 team league. You don't need to make any moves, you just need to wait until Ellsbury comes back. I would put Hosmer on the bench until he gets hot again--nothing you get in return is going to be worth his upside. Other than that, just sit tight and watch...this team is beastly.

Who could I pair with Granderson or Stanton for Justin Upton?

I probably wouldn't trade either one straight up for Upton. Why would you want to make that deal? I'm not meaning to sound condescending, I actually would like to know.

I'm plagued with a lot of all or nothing types. My team has been between .180 and .220 for three weeks.

Any guys I could target an suggestions of who to move?
