Harpers value

Postby Rally Cat » Thu Jun 21, 2012 5:59 pm

I play in a 12 team mixed keeper. I have Bryce Harper. A guy in my league looking to win( he's in second place ) needs some hitting.
I he can afford to give up pitching. He has Lance Lynn and Bumgarner. All three players mentioned can be kept 3 more years after this year. My keepers ( we keep 6 ) as of right now are. Harper, Braun, Miggy, Votto, Bruce and Verlander. I do have two first rd picks in next years draft. I stand to get one of either Fielder, Albert, Reyes, J upton, Cano, McCutchen, Rollins, Holliday, Felix,Jered Weaver, Beltre or Butler. Two of them will be on my team next year.
This other manager also has Price but he can only be kept one more year after this year.
I offered him Harper for Bumgarner shortly after Harper came up but he rejected . Now he wishes he had taken it. He came to me and asked me what his 1st rd pick would get him.
I'm thinking of asking him for Bum and his 1 st rd pick and sending Harper, Buchholz and my 5th rd pick back. I would get three of the players listed for sure plus have Bumgarner. Too much to ask?
Thoughts?

Here's what I'd do:

Make the deal. Take Bumgarner. Draft Pujols Cano and McCutchen.

Boom.

Yeah , Thats if he's willing to give up his first rd pick. Plus I won't know the exact picks will be until after the season . I'm guessing I'll have something in the 3-5 range with one pick and maybe 6-8 range with the other. If i get his it will be either 11-12 depending on how he finishes.

He also has Lance Lynn. Who would you rather have ? Lynn or Bumgarner?

With an 11th or 12th pick you'd be looking at Beltre, Billy Butler or Jimmy Rollins and Bumgarner for Bryce Harper. I'd rather have Harper. You're drooling over 3 first round picks, but realize that you already have 2 plus have fantastic keepers already. I don't know if I'd make any moves if I were you, I think you have to be going all in for next year, as strong as possible, with that kind of lineup and picks.

Speaking of that, does the rest of your team suck or something? Can't believe you're not at least in the top 5 with those keepers.

I have some pretty good pitchers. McDonald and Edwin Jackson. But yes. The rest of my team isn't doing that well. I actually just moved into 4th place but only by a .5 pt. Its a money spot but not enough to lose out on a good player in the draft. I can see my team finishing 6th or 7th overall.

I couldn't agree more. Don't make this trade.
