Call Up Harper or Leave Him on the Farm

Postby garf112 » Thu Jun 21, 2012 5:41 pm

I know it sounds crazy that I have kept him down for this long, but we get to keep our prospect from year to year regardless of the number of PA or service time accumulated and I was hoping to use him almost as a 9th keeper for next season because I was far and away in first place. I have come back to the pack a bit, but am still in first. Should I call him up? I've got plenty of guys that I could drop, but that I have to worry about keepers for next year (we can keep 8). I would also be eligible for the All-Star break prospect draft if I called him up before that and many of the top prospects in MiLB are out there. I've also traded Swisher for Marcum to help my pitching so that trade is still yet to be processed.

Play in a 12 team 5X5 (OBP instead of AVG) keeper with 22 man starting rosters (C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, CI, MI, LF, CF, RF, OF, OF, UT, and 9 P slots)

C A.J. Ellis (LAD - C)
1B Nick Swisher (NYY - 1B,RF)
2B Jason Kipnis (Cle - 2B)
3B David Wright (NYM - 3B)
SS Everth Cabrera (SD - 2B,SS)
CI Ike Davis (NYM - 1B)
MI Danny Espinosa (Was - 2B)
LF Seth Smith (Oak - LF,RF)
CF Adam Jones (Bal - CF)
RF Bryan LaHair (ChC - 1B,LF,RF)
OF Melky Cabrera (SF - LF,CF,RF)
OF Cameron Maybin (SD - CF)
Util Paul Konerko (CWS - 1B)
BN Mitch Moreland (Tex - 1B,RF)
BN J.D. Martinez (Hou - LF)
BN Chris Davis (Bal - 1B,3B,RF)
BN Anthony Rizzo (ChC - 1B)
DL Troy Tulowitzki (Col - SS) DL

P Rafael Betancourt (Col - P)
P Vinnie Pestano (Cle - P)
P Craig Kimbrel (Atl - P)
P Chris Sale (CWS - P)
P Trevor Cahill (Ari - P)
P Ivan Nova (NYY - P)
P Matt Capps (Min - P)
P Gio Gonzalez (Was - P)
P Jered Weaver (LAA - P)
BN Wade Miley (Ari - P)
DL Derek Holland (Tex - P)
DL Roy Halladay (Phi - P)

First off, thanks for looking at mine.
I am not sure if I understand the league 100% but I just know that the kid is playing great and I would have a hard time having him sitting with some of the other guys you have on your team right now.

Basically, I can keep him off of my active roster as a prospect and call him up after our 2013 draft.. If I call him up now, he would have to be part of my 8 keepers for next year and I could pick another prospect at the all star break this year.

Thanks for helping on mine. How are you doing in your league? It looks like Harper will be a massive upgrade to your OF. Just remember that Harper may (or may not) make a difference for you in the play-offs. I called him up, but I my cost is a $20 salary - doesn't cost me a keeper spot. Tough call.

Missed that, sorry. If you're in first, I would not call him up.
